Day and Night

By Rita H. Chen

She comes in on her father’s arm
Her tender charm,
feminine grace,
upon her face

She lifts her chin and smiles at me
So all can see
her perfection,
Our connection

She comes to me, I take her hand,
and there we stand
One vow of mine,
now our lives twine

Dragging, lonely nights where I lie
and wish to die
I fight in vain
a stabbing pain

Dark suffering that has no name
I can but tame
with dreamless sleep
fitful and deep

There are no words to rightly say
what is the way
in which to heal
endless ordeal
