When I was preparing for my business trip to India, my colleague suggested rather off-handedly that I look into getting a rabies shot. I thought she was being paranoid. I would be working in big cities and while I knew that I would see animals on the street, the only ones I felt might bite were stray dogs.
Well, it turns out monkeys roam the streets too. I knew they existed but naïve me thought they lived farther out – perhaps along the outskirts of the city. In actuality, they live smack dab in busy urban centers. The ones in this particular photo were seen across from the President’s Estate in New Delhi.
Now with that said, apparently monkey bites rarely lead to rabies (though they are still harmful and you will need antibiotics after being bitten) so you wouldn’t really need it, even with the monkeys around. However, I couldn’t help but think in all my paranoia:
Man, that rabies shot is looking damn good right now…
