Winter in the City

Winter in the City

By Rita H. Chen

Glittering dust covering steel banisters,

Thick carpets blanketing front yards,

Dangling icicles lining spindly branches,

Stillness in the black pre-dawn

Thick tires across cracked pavement,

Salt crystals dissolving hidden ice,

Metal shovels scraping asphalt driveways,

Awakening under the blue-grey sky

Booted footsteps pounding cleared stairs,

Snow angels imprinting covered earth,

Gloved hands brushing clinging snow,

Life with the golden sun

Rita’s Musings: A poem that was first inspired by the sounds of snow trucks moving along the streets one January morning, I was hoping to capture the beauty of winter with these words.
