Two, not one
By Rita H. Chen
My love,
You forgive me,
For the things I say but shouldn’t say,
For the things I do but shouldn’t do,
Though I think we’re one,
We’re actually two
Planets orbiting,
Attracting but lacking connection,
Moving but missing synchronicity,
Reflecting stars
Two, actually are we
One, though I wish we are
For the things you do not do but should do,
For the things you do not say but should say,
I forgive you,
My love
Rita’s Musings: This poem sprung from a thought I had about there being a misconception that two people become one upon marriage. To me, no two people can become “one” because humans were not built that way (not even with their own families). Instead, I feel couples begin to align and synchronize their movements and thoughts in marriage, thus connecting one to the other.
