The Heartbeat of God

The Heartbeat of God

By Rita H. Chen

No one is safe
No one is perfect
Even the holiest, the pillars of church,
struggle every day
struggle every hour
to tame the desires of the flesh

The devil is wicked
The devil is conniving
Hiding in the commonplace, the seemingly innocent
Twisting our thoughts
Twisting our beliefs
until we forget what we know to be true

We are loved
We are saved
Slates wiped clean, made anew by the power of His blood
We are adored
We are accepted
Able to travel the path of life freely, children of the King

It is His grace
It is His tenderness
Loving us despite our flaws, forgiving our tendency to stray
Every minute
Every second
Nuzzling us to His bosom, close to the beating of His heart

Rita’s Musings: This poem was inspired by the inspiring and powerful Worship Night during The People’s Church’s Global Outreach Conference. Let us always do our best to keep our eyes firmly fixed on God.
